HON in 7x7 Magazine Spring Fashion Issue

The Spring Fashion issue of 7x7 Magazine just came out, and HON products appear in most of the photos in the spread. Great styling, beautiful photos. Yay! The photos are not available on 7x7s website, though, so you'll just have to go pick up a paper copy.

Fez Friday: Bette Davis

Here's the first installment of Fez Fridays. I have so many great photos of fezes, and people wearing fezes, and weird fezes, that I just have to share.
Bette Davis, late 60s, in a fez. Who knows why, but I like it.

The Case for Berets

I have to admit, I'm not usually a fan of berets (too soft and floppy), but I love this photo of Cesar Romero from 1934.

HON now on marthastewartweddings.com

The photos of Eunice & Daniel James' wedding are up on marthastewartweddings.com now!

It was such a beautiful wedding, and a fun day and evening. I made cockades for the gentlemen of the bridal party, and some decor (the ring pillow, curtains, etc.). My good friends Jillian Northrup and Jeffrey McGrew of Because We Can made most of the hard decor, like the stage and a lot of the props. And of course, everything else was designed and made by Eunice and her sister Sabrina, who are the powerhouses of creative and business genius behind Hello Lucky!

It'll be covered in the Spring 2010 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine as well.

Here's the slideshow of the wedding photos.

New Hat Style - My Favorite Fez

I just love a nice fez, they're always in style. This one is made of fur felt, with a pattern of concentric circles on top, and finished with a tassel. I'm currently making more samples in other colors, including animal prints, but couldn't wait to show it off in black.

The one I made one for myself (in black with a red tassel) gets frequent compliments from bystanders when I'm out & about. Although it's a unisex style, it looks great with a little black cocktail dress.

Available now through my Etsy shop.

New Custom Work

I just completed three new custom hats, here are some photos.

This Belle Epoque top hat was made for a client to wear to a Mad Hatter's Tea Party themed event. Made with eggplant purple 'beaver' fur, black and red emu feathers, and a ribbon cockade in black, red, and plum.

One of the organizers of the Nova Albion Steampunk Exhibition wanted a Kit Kat bowler to wear to the convention. Made of chocolate brown 'beaver' felt, with rooster and emu feathers, and a ribbon cockade finished with clock parts and a vintage button.

And, a new style of cocktail hat for a bride who's getting married in New Orleans in March. She's a gorgeous redhead, and her gown is purple with a big rhinestone clasp. The hat is made of eggplant purple 'beaver' felt, and has rhinestone buttons to coordinate with the gown. The black peacock and purple emu feathers are all sewn in individually by hand. The hat is crescent shaped, designed to curve around the top of a bun the bride will wear at the back of her head, and it attaches with a hidden comb.

More is More

Hats on hats! Why wear just one hat, when you can wear three at once?

Hat of the Week: The 60s Jockey Cap

This mid-1960s black velvet jockey cap is obviously inspired by the English style horse riding helmet, but is also fashiony enough not to be mistaken for actual sports equipment. I love the bubble shape, it looks like something Audrey Hepburn might have worn in the movie Charade, with Cary Grant.

New Hat Blocks Photos

I've just posted another group of photos of hat blocks to flickr. Here are some of my favorites. Follow this link for the full set.
